Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Tribute To My Mom!

Hello Everyone...As many of you know, the month of Oct. is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!  There are many events and fundraisers this month to celebrate the lives and memories of those we love.  Breast Cancer touches the lives of most everyone in one way or another.  This month our family will celebrate my Mom, who is a survivor of 9 years, and her Mother, who also had Breast Cancer.  My Grandmother was diagnosed at age 40, was treated with a radical mastectomy and radiation and lived to age 93!  Her story reminds us of just how important early diagnosis and treatment are.

While battling breast cancer my Mom has shown continued strength and has inspired many.  I wanted to make an album for her to let her know what a blessing she has been in my life!

I used the Porcelain Paper Line from Basic Grey to cover 8x8 pieces of book board.  There are various flowers, some I made with ribbon and others with dictionary paper and doilies.  I also used several GORGEOUS Prima Flowers!!!  Many of the ribbons, fibers and lace were from my stash, which were used to  cover my binding rings!  The ribbon corset design was made from sodapop tabs!  I actually colored them by placing them in a baggie with Ranger Alcohol Inks...pretty cool! The tags were made from Acrylic Paper, which I distressed and embossed with Tim Holtz Inks and Embossing Powders.  I then sprayed them with Glimmer Mist.  The Acrylic Paper reacted with the Glimmer Mist creating a sanded look...kinda cool!  The butterflies were stamped with Versa Mark Ink and embossed with Zing Embossing Powder, which is very fine, giving the image more detail.  The heat from embossing the butterflies caused the transparency to curl, as if they were flying off the page!  Also made a Marion Pocket..Love It and a Laura Denison Cascading Pocket to hold my fabulous chip pieces  and envelopes from Maya Road and calendar from Jennie Bowlin!

Scraps Remembered By Cher

A Victorian Layout Of My Girls!

This layout was created using a beautiful Melissa Francis paper line titled, "Margaret."  I loved the Victorian children in the design.  It would also be gorgeous to use in a Christmas layout. I was lucky to find some Basic Grey tags and card stock in my stash, which I distressed by tearing and chalking the edges.  I used lace throughout the layout, cutting some into flower shapes and photo corners.  I then used a strand of pearls and some lace ribbon to embellish the page.

California Girls!

This summer our youngest daughter flew out to California to visit her sister, just before her move to San Francisco...They had a blast together! Jodie couldn't believe how beautiful the Grass Valley area was.  She spent hours feeding deer from her hand!  Jamie, was very fortunate to live in a gated community with a gorgeous lake. The pictures were so beautiful, I didn't have to add a lot of embellishments to the page.  I love the digital turquoise frame from http://houseof3.com/.  The black ornate frame is also from http://houseof3.com/.  The bolted glass knob is from http://shabbymissjenndesigns.com/.

My Bucket List!

Every Aug. hubby and I head to K.C. for the Central States Veterinary Convention. Once we arrive we usually meet up with some friends, eager to plan our weekend. Unfortunately, because of family commitments, my friend was unable to join me for our usual lunch and shopping festivities. My options were to sit in a lonely hotel room, waiting for hubby's classes to end or to do something I have always dreamed of...So I did it, I made a Bucket List! Determined to learn about every scrapbook store in the K.C area, I began my google search. Just minutes from downtown K.C. is "The Scrapbook Page", location, Shawnee, KS. Named 'One of the Top 10 Scrapbook Stores in the Country' by Better Homes & Gardens Scrapbook's etc. magazine. Although, easy to miss from the HWY, as it is tucked inside a little stripmall, the space inside was filled with YUMMY SCRAPPY EYECANDY:-) and the largest cropping area I have ever seen! The store has a wonderful vintage feel and little vignettes of paper collections, embellies and ephemera that include my favorites; Graphic45, Tim Holtz and My Minds Eye!

This Layout was created with the Shabby Chic Die Cut Glittered Paper, which is part of the Lost & Found Collection, from My Minds Eye and is some of the most GORGEOUS paper I've ever seen...Love It! Also used Prima Flowers and painted them with Glimmer Mist and Perfect Pearls. The ribbon, lace, buttons and feathers are from JoAnn Fabrics. Butterflies are chipboard pieces from the Madeline Collection from K&Company. The Ornate Plate and Baroque Die Cut is from Tim Holtz and the Large Crystal and Ring Dangle Crystals are from 7gypsies.
Thanks so much for stopping in!
